Strategic Water Planning for Honolulu TOD Redevelopment
Location
Honolulu, Hawaiʻi
Project type
Onsite Wastewater Treatment, Green Stormwater Infrastructure, Climate Resilience, Water Conservation/ Nonpotable Reuse
Client
Honolulu Board of Water Supply
REDI is leading resiliency planning efforts for the Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS) to inform water management strategies for future new and redevelopment projects within Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) zones. This initiative aims to identify integrated, multi-benefit solutions that align with the goals of multiple city water agencies. The analysis incorporates present and future site conditions—including sea level rise projections, flood-prone areas, water supply availability, and sanitary sewer capacity—to prioritize zones for potential water management incentives. The project supports BWS policy development and advances a “One Water” approach aligned with the Hawaiʻi Fresh Water Initiative, promoting coordinated, resilient, and sustainable urban growth.
