Project Type

Location
Kīhei, Maui, Hawai'i
Client
Kalepolepo Beach Park & NOAA Whale Sanctuary
In collaboration with partners, REDI led the design-build of a shower treatment garden and a series of rain gardens at Kalepolepo Beach Park and the adjacent NOAA Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. The system captures greywater from public showers and stormwater from the sanctuary’s roof and parking lot, filtering it through bioretention landscapes. During dry periods, treated greywater is redirected to irrigate the rain gardens, supporting continuous vegetation health and performance. REDI also developed educational signage and conducted outreach during construction to engage NOAA staff and community members—creating a foundation for ongoing public education and stewardship.
