Location

Kāʻanapali, Maui

Client

Ridge 2 Reef

Project type

Regenerative Design, Green Stormwater Infrastructure, Community Engagement and Education

In partnership with West Maui Ridge to Reef floating wetlands were designed and built for the primary drainage canal of Kāʻanapali Resort. The canal receives stormwater runoff from the golf course, Kāʻanapali Parkway, and multiple hotel facilities that drain into the parkway. The goals of the project were to utilize nature-based wetland systems to remediate pollutants entering the canal during storm events. The floating wetlands were constructed onsite with the support of the community and resort, and utilize native Hawaiian wetland plants that also serve as habitat for the local wildlife.
