Kealakehe Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade, Kailua-Kona

REDI is working with Brown and Caldwell during the conceptual design phase for a proposed 8-acre constructed wetland to treat up to 1 MGD to serve as a polishing treatment system following secondary treatment. The constructed wetland will provide nutrient removal and polishing treatment for effluent that is not designated for R-1 reuse (tertiary treatment). REDI evaluated various plant species that could be incorporated and their placement in the wetland system, identified potential suppliers, as well as provided rough order of magnitude to costs for the county to consider.
